ABOUT

Avery is a boy who is full of energy. He is constantly on the move, running, jumping, and climbing. He is sweet and loves to show affection. Avery craves attention and enjoys being helpful. He likes showing affection by sitting in your lap, touching your face, or having you touch his face. Avery has grown up as an only child and prefers to be alone, but can interact well with other children. He is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and requires patience and frequent prompts to stay on task. He is non-verbal but he can lead his caregivers to something that he wants.

Avery will do well with a family who offers patience and consistency, along with careful supervision. Avery's family will have to commit to helping him reach his potential. Experience working with children with special needs, especially autism, will be helpful. The family for Avery will be able to spend a lot of one-on-one time with him, be assertive in accessing the resources he needs, and willing to cooperate with others involved with his care. A two-parent family with a flexible work schedule or a stay-at-home parent with a strong support system will be the ideal for Avery. He needs a family who will follow through with recommended services such as; speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, play therapy, and applied behavior analysis therapy. Some of these can occur in the home, some may have to occur in a clinical setting. Avery's family will be open to having providers in their home to provide services to for Avery.
