Back to School: Preparing Students for Success
The first day of school brings a mix of excitement and nerves – packing new supplies, finding classrooms, and wondering what the year ahead will bring. For children and teens connected with foster care across Central Texas, those first-day jitters often come with even bigger questions. Will they be starting at a new school? Will they have the support needed to succeed, both in and out of the classroom? What will this school year hold?
Every year, Partnerships for Children helps make sure students begin the school year with the resources they need to feel prepared and confident on the first day. Hundreds of children connected with CPS receive a backpack filled with new school supplies, along with the extras that make the first day special: a pair of shoes they chose themselves, a backpack they love, the latest water bottle, and the reassurance that someone in their corner, ready to support them.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’ve already checked school supplies off the list. Now, we’re focused on the extra special asks that help students fully participate in school. We’re just within reach of our $4,500 goal to make every request a reality.
From cleats for sports, to band equipment, to calculators for AP classes, the cost of participating in school activities can add up quickly. These aren’t just extras – they’re opportunities for students to find their place beyond the classroom.
You can help make those opportunities possible by giving today.
If you’d rather shop directly for items children and teens are requesting, you can support through our Amazon Wish List. Items from our Wish List ship directly to our office, and are placed right in the hands of caseworkers preparing youth for the school year ahead.
As the new school year begins, every child deserves the chance to walk into the classroom feeling confident and ready to learn. Thank you for helping students connected with CPS start the year with the resources they need to thrive.
