Become a Mentor

The Youth Empowerment and Success (YES) program is aimed at improving youths’ self-esteem and enhancing their ability to make responsible decisions through training, mentoring and financial support.

A relationship with a supportive person is the most important factor in a young person’s personal growth.YES youth participants often gain a sense of self-worth when they recognize that a caring adult other than their caregiver is willing to invest time and energy with them.

Please consider becoming a mentor and joining this group of community members and foster youth. Your gift of time will directly impact the future of a foster youth in our community. The commitment is one year with with the opportunity for the relationship to continue on its own. YES Mentors are required to submit a criminal background check and volunteer application prior to participating in the program.

There are 6 YES classes per cycle which are held on Saturday mornings.  At each of the classes, Mentors and Youth work together in small groups to cover our Financial Literacy topics. Mentors will be matched with a youth after the opportunity to form a positive and organic relationship during the class sessions. After the completion of all YES classes, Mentors will continue to work with youth one-on-one to help them achieve their dreams & goals by providing support and guidance as they prepare for independent living. Mentor information sessions are held periodically throughout the year.

What our YES youth are saying….

“Just being able to talk to someone more wise than you is a great thing.”

“I enjoy talking to my mentor…She listens to me and gives me advice that makes sense.”

“I think the most beneficial part is just knowing that someone cares.”
