Youth Empowerment & Success(YES) was started to support the CPS program, Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). PAL was implemented in 1986 to ensure older youth in substitute care are prepared for their inevitable departure from Texas Department of Family and Protective Services’ care and support. At any given time, there are about 3,500 youth 16 years of age and older in substitute care in Central Texas. Through our partnership with PAL, YES services programs aimed at improving youths' self esteem and enhancing their ability to make responsible decisions through training, mentoring and financial support. These programs strive to provide each youth with skills and resources they will need to be healthy, productive adults. Services Offered Through YES:PAL Support – PC continues in their support of the CPS PAL Program through their annual PAL Alumni Holiday Party, Six Flags trip for Teens, Erika Herndon Scholarship and College Cases for graduating PAL teens. Prom Princess and Prom Dude Project - In partnership with corporate and private donors, PC coordinates drives for formal dresses, shoes, and accessories and provides volunteers for the annual prom project to prepare our children for their high school prom. What About Me? Teen Conferences - We are proud to partner with the Casey Foundation and CPS to provide the WHAT ABOUT ME? Teen Conferences, an opportunity for teens in foster care to get together and discuss issues which are relevant in their lives. This event works to provide foster teens with the tools to overcome some of life’s hardships while embracing life’s possibilities. YES Mentoring Project - The YES Mentoring Project enrolls children 16 to 18 years old who reside in group homes or foster care in the Department of Family and Protective Services (Child Protective Services) system. The YES Mentoring Project works with CPS to identify the children who have the capacity to participate and are most at need. The YES Mentoring Project will provide a well-trained volunteer mentor for each child as long as needed until the child reaches the age of 18 years old with the opportunity for the relationship to continue on its own.
